The album has a score of 67 out of 100 on Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[eight] URB gave the album four stars out of five and said, "If we're to accuse Chemic Brothers of annihilation, it'due south trying to ready a lofty new bar in the style they themselves created, and that no i else seems to be working anymore."[8] BBC Collective also gave the album four stars out of five and said, "Rather than play catch-up, the Chems are accentuating the difference, digging deeper into tune instead of piling on the noise."[18] Billboard gave information technology a favourable review and said that when the anthology "opens with a cataclysm of "Transformers" noises, it signals a record that's a little more unapologetically electronic than their previous ones."[nineteen] Spin gave it a score of seven out of ten and stated that "Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons go along to smear psychedelic synth cheese and stereophonic airplane noises over chewy grooves that veer closer and closer to direct disco."[20]

Other reviews are pretty average, mixed or negative: NME gave it a score of vi out of x and stated that the vocal "All Rights Reversed" saved the anthology "from sounding like it's all the same stuck in the mid-'90s and with Willy Mason and Midlake cropping upwardly, Tom and Ed have again found just plenty cool mates to save them from a full general feeling of naffness."[21] Yahoo! Music UK gave the album half dozen stars out of ten and said it "feels bloated and ornate amidst the elegant functionalism of post-millennial club music."[22] Drowned in Sound too gave it a score of six out of 10 and said, "While there are moments that have the summer days – and shock – of '99 flooding back, too much of this sixth long-thespian proper sounds disjointed and manhandled."[23] musicOMH gave it 3 stars out of v and stated: "While you may know what you're getting with a Chemical Brothers album, they remain damn good at what they exercise.... You get the impression that their side by side album may have to exist a scrap more adventurous if they're to survive."[24] At present also gave it 3 stars out of five and said that information technology was "rapidly axiomatic... that the Chemical Brothers are making a serious get at being contemporary.... They pull information technology off relatively well for the most role."[25] Prefix Magazine gave information technology an average review and said that "Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons pull out all their tricks, delivering an album of euphoric psychedelic electronica, quirky invitee appearances, and danceable grooves."[26]

Slant Magazine gave it a score of ii-and-a-half stars out of five and said that the anthology, "like nearly high schoolhouse reunions, fails to kick-showtime anything other than nostalgia."[27] Stylus Magazine, however, gave information technology a D and said that the album "isn't awful, but you can hear the rigidity of its formula, like the motorik title tune that burps upwards its eponymy every few seconds along a signless, moody highway."[28]
